NY CREATES had a major research & development (R&D) facility upgrade project that needed to be executed to support their ‘AI’ program.
Full engineering, procurement, and construction management of a 18,000 sq. foot ISO class 5 cleanroom and infrastructure upgrades.
NY CREATES will be able to move forward with a first of its kind ‘AI’ research & development program on-site after the completion of this project.
NY CREATES, a global leader in R&D for the semiconductor industry, was looking to retrofit an existing cleanroom while keeping a selection of critical tools operating in a cleanroom environment and coordinating the installation of process, mechanical, electrical equipment to support the future installation of state-of-the-art AI tools at the Albany NanoTech Complex. They partnered with Arcadis for engineering, procurement, and construction management approach.
Construction for the facility was split into two phases to accommodate the project’s accelerated schedule. For each phase, the central utility building and fab space, the team worked with design, procurement, and construction experts to identify and plan around equipment and materials with long lead times to meet the demand of the growing semiconductor market in the US. Arcadis offered a turnkey solution model of engineering, procurement, construction management, and project management (EPCM) as a single partner to execute all aspects of the client’s needs. We identified LLM (Long Lead Material) through the design lifecycle and went out to the market to secure equipment and materials. We did this to keep the project on schedule and secure costs with our contracting partners as the market was volatile during COVID-19. We prequalified all our trade partners to assure the project had the best qualified teams to execute the work and achieve the clients' milestones. This project resulted in zero safety incidents through handover to NY CREATES.
The NY CREATES facility saw many benefits upon completing this project. The Arcadis Engineering team provided construction ready documents to the procurement and construction group to execute the Civil, Architectural, and MEP equipment scopes of work. In addition, Arcadis built a federated 3D model and coordinated the installation of all major aspects of the project with trade partners and the client through the project’s completion and handover. This project provided the client with the space necessary to continue developing their cutting-edge R&D technology in the semiconductor sector.
