Eeyou Communications Network successfully launches Arcadis broadband solution

(January 12, 2025) – Arcadis (EURONEXT: ARCAD), a global leader in intelligence-driven sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions, has signed a two-year contract with Eeyou Communications Network (ECN) to deliver its broadband management and operations solution across Eeyou Istchee and parts of James Bay. ECN officially launched the solution to approximately 30,000 residents in December 2025, following the successful completion of a pilot project that demonstrated the potential to support ECN’s existing, sophisticated, open-access broadband network.

This marks the first time Arcadis is delivering its broadband solution in Quebec and will enable ECN to continue offering high-speed internet across 275,000 square kilometres. The Eeyou Istchee region is home to nine Cree First Nations and five non-Indigenous communities, many of whom live in rural areas. ECN plays a vital role by connecting these communities through its open-access network, enabling high-speed internet access that supports education, healthcare, and economic development.

Through this agreement, Arcadis will provide its broadband software solution, including integration services, ongoing solution support, and product training to enable ECN to manage and operate its open-access broadband network.

Commenting on the contract award, Keith Ponton, Broadband Delivery Director, Arcadis, said, “We’re excited to bring our broadband solutions to Northern Quebec in partnership with one of the most advanced community-run network providers in the country. Eeyou Communications Network’s vision aligns with our mission to drive local economic growth and build long-term capacity through reliable broadband.”

Several service providers will operate on ECN’s open-access network, offering residents and businesses increased choice and improved service quality. With Arcadis’ support, ECN is expected to scale its offerings while continuing to lead as a national example of community-operated, open-access broadband infrastructure.

Arcadis delivered a platform that performed exactly as promised, and their team demonstrated exceptional commitment in supporting ECN throughout the implementation process,” said Cédric Melançon, Director General, Eeyou Communications Network.

Arcadis is already delivering its broadband solution across several rural communities in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, California, and Oregon. Arcadis’ broadband solution provides services across every stage of broadband development, from feasibility studies to design and construction and network provisioning and management.
