The challenge

NY CREATES, a global leader in research and development (R&D) for the semiconductor industry, was expanding one of their facilities to accelerate R&D efforts. This project was carried out under a rigorous schedule on a challenging site, that required immediate attention to mitigate potential risks affecting equipment, materials, and resources.

The solution

We provided comprehensive design build services, including all aspects of architecture, engineering, procurement, logistics, and construction management. By establishing an interactive environment that integrated the client with the design team’s process, we were able to create a dynamic dialogue and facilitate early decision-making, which positively impacted the outcome of all phases of the project.

We began by identifying early procurement packages in parallel with the design and use of advanced open-source BIM/VDC tools, fabrication level model development, and long-standing relationships with turnkey specialist vendors. We then leveraged modular and off-site manufacturing where feasible, and this method ultimately achieved design to target value, promoting improved safety and quality while also significantly reducing cost and schedule to delivery.

The construction management team employed advanced planning and scheduling to create integrated teams, eliminate waste, and produce a highly reliable and visible schedule. Using a highly selective evaluation process, all trade partners were prequalified by Arcadis, ensuring highly qualified and safety-driven teams.

On site, a large collaboration room allowed for the optimization of the schedule and teamwork.

The impact

Based on this solution, Arcadis delivered a state-of-the-art facility to a long-standing, respected client impacting R&D technologies and the burgeoning semiconductor industry with future site development capabilities. The new buildings reflected a distinctive identity and presence while maintaining seamless and complimentary integration into the existing complex.
