The ability for asset owners to effectively manage and future-proof their assets has long been a crucial part of ensuring a good user experience for passengers. However, today there is increasing pressure on these assets, whether that’s increasing demand or extreme weather events.
Couple this with the current challenges of inflation, energy prices, pressure on budgets and ‘doing more with less’ and the question becomes, is your business set up to understand the pressure points for your assets, and to quickly understand why they have failed to avoid costly repairs and disruptions to service?

Understanding why your rail assets fail
The everyday challenges that come with managing and maintaining intricate transportation systems are complex. Disruption of the service in any way affects business continuity, safety and passenger experience.
However a recent study has shown that the cause of asset failure is only known one third of the time. That means that two out of every three failures cannot be explained, which is a huge concern for railway asset owners. That’s why we are passionate about pushing the boundaries of asset management, to a performance-based approach which mitigates uncertainty, transforms assets and future proofs business models.
Our innovative approach to asset management
Our experts, both consultants and engineers, have transformed the approach to asset management with a unique performance-based approach model which guarantees maximal performance. We offer support through complex decision-making processes, helping asset owners to prioritise their needs and transform their business to achieve these goals by providing bespoke business transformation and asset management plans, and turning them in to action.
We use a value framework to guide the best decision-making process, based on the clients goals, whether that’s reducing failures, improving performance, lower maintenance costs, increasing resilience or enhancing customer satisfaction.
Our approach in action
This approach has been tested and refined by Arcadis in the Netherlands, where we have been working with ProRail to identify which assets would have the biggest impact if they failed by using a mix of targeted data analytics and technical asset insights and putting in processes to mitigate these failures. The results speak for themselves with technical failures reduced by 64% and maintenance costs reduced by 40% nationally.
