Arcadis secures renewed framework contract for Dutch Zuidasdok program

12 September 2024 – Arcadis has been selected to provide engineering services for Amsterdam’s Zuidasdok program, one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Netherlands.

The newly awarded contract encompasses a range of services and will see Arcadis providing multidisciplinary expertise in fields including civil engineering, architecture, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, building services, permitting, environmental management, and rail infrastructure.

The Zuidasdok program aims to improve accessibility in Amsterdam and the northern Randstad region, while elevating the Zuidas district into a premier international destination for living, working, and leisure. The program focuses on the remodeling of Amsterdam Zuid station and the tunneling of the A10 Zuid ring road in the Zuidas district. The tunnel will cover one kilometer and feature two additional lanes to divide through-traffic from local traffic.

Arcadis, together with Witteveen+Bos and four strategic partners, have been working together since 2013 under a joint venture known as Ingenieursbureau Zuidasdok (IBZ). The newly awarded contract secures the continued involvement of IBZ for the remaining duration of the program, until 2036, and has a total contract value of EUR 105 million.

Zuidasdok is a collaborative program involving the national government, the North-Holland province, Amsterdam Transport Region, and the City of Amsterdam. It is overseen by a single executive organization; a partnership comprising Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail, and the City of Amsterdam.

Alan Brookes, CEO of Arcadis, said: “Zuidasdok is one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the Netherlands, and our continued involvement shows our commitment to improving urban mobility and connectivity worldwide. Drawing on our global experience of complex projects like the Melbourne Metro Tunnel and the London Bridge station redevelopment, where maintaining full operational capacity was crucial, we are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of this program. Zuidasdok will play a key role in creating a vibrant and connected urban district for residents, workers, and commuters, and we are excited to use our expertise to bring this vision to life.”
