Development to deliver affordable housing with transit connections at former industrial site.
Arcadis, the leading global design and consultancy organization for natural and built assets, is proud to announce its pivotal role in supporting Summix Capital’s transformative Edinburgh Gateway project. The landmark mixed-use development is set to deliver almost 1,000 new homes, including 35% affordable housing, and a 170-key hotel on the site of the former Saica packaging facility near Edinburgh Airport.
Arcadis supported the design teams on their masterplan, creating a vision that both ensured investment viability and but also established a phased build out strategy. Arcadis also acted as the project manager during RIBA Stages 1 and 2+, bringing deep expertise and local insight to help shape the vision for Edinburgh Gateway. Working hand-in-hand with the consultant team, Arcadis ensured streamlined coordination, risk mitigation, and the pursuit of innovative, sustainable solutions throughout the early stages of the project.
The Edinburgh Gateway development represents a significant investment in West Edinburgh, offering a unique opportunity to regenerate a former industrial site and foster a vibrant new community. The project will deliver a diverse range of housing, including accessible family homes and Build to Rent accommodation, addressing the city’s critical housing needs.
The site, once home to a major packaging facility, will be transformed into a flagship neighbourhood, integrating new homes, a hotel, and commercial uses to support the city’s growth. Arcadis’ involvement underscores its dedication to unlocking opportunities for clients and communities alike.
Ken Wilkie, Account Director at Arcadis said, “We are delighted to play a key role in delivering the vision for Edinburgh Gateway. This project will deliver critically needed transit-oriented housing in one of Scotland’s tightest markets, and ensures a high percentage remains affordable. Our partnership with Summix and their design team reflects Arcadis’ continued commitment to shaping connected, resilient communities that improve the quality of life.”
