Our journey to net zero
Climate change is the biggest challenge facing the world. Each year, the devastating effects of the manmade climate crisis are being felt, more and more, by people all around the world. We must all do everything in our power to limit the rise in global temperatures.
At Arcadis, we recognize our responsibility to eliminate carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions in our operations. That is why we have set an ambitious target to becoming a net zero company by 2035 and we have set specific goals to accomplish this over the coming years.
Our ambition is to accelerate towards a Net Zero world that improves quality of life for all. The built environment is fundamental to this, accounting for almost 40% of global emissions. It has a critical role to play in mitigating climate change and is also central to building resilience against climate extremes that are already upon us.
The whole carbon and biodiversity agenda is altering some of the fundamentals of where we build, how we build and how we operate.
Consumers, investors, regulators, and employees are all demanding that companies do more to address their environmental and social impact. They're not just asking for pledges and commitments – they want tangible action.
We must make urban mobility more sustainable if we ever hope to create pollution-free cities. Arcadis is working with clients to develop sustainable modes of transport and we’re helping citizens shift their mobility behaviors toward more sustainable means.
Design and engineering can make sustainability a reality. In all of the work I do for clients, I’m constantly asking myself how to make sure the project is in balance with nature and respectful of local culture and history.
When Arcadians talk to me about their local volunteer and pro bono initiatives, I can always sense how proud they are to be working to make their communities more sustainable and livable. And that makes me proud to be an Arcadian.
