Arcadis wanted to help improve traveler’s experience at Manchester Airport.
Better roads, more parking and easier check-in — some of the things we are working on to make a difference to the airport experience.
The enormous transformation project is underway, and the benefits will be felt for generations to come.
It’s the home of football. It's where the atom was split. It’s consistently voted best UK city to live in. Manchester is a historical, economic powerhouse, and developing strong infrastructure and transport links will help to drive economic growth across the rest of the country. Manchester doesn’t need any more great reasons to visit, but travelers need a passenger and airline experience worthy of Manchester's reputation. That’s why Arcadis is involved in the £1bn Manchester Airport Transformation Programme, which includes the construction of an 85,000sq m extension to Terminal 2, reconfiguring the existing 87,000sq m Terminal 1 building, and constructing three 11,000sq m piers; all allowing Terminal 2 to become the airport’s primary Terminal building to cater for increased demand and an expanding flight schedule.
In order to make the most impact on travelers’ experience in Manchester Airport, we had to be able to put ourselves in the shoes of each of the 35 million passengers who will pass through the airport by 2024.
What does it feel like, at Arcadis, to play a role in the development of Manchester’s transportation legacy?
In short, it is gratifying, inspirational, and endurance-building. The sheer scale and scope of this nine-year transformation, with almost fifty enhancements across the airport, is not for the inexperienced or the impatient. Yes, it is a complex and ambitious project, but what keeps us going is the certainty that the outcome will be a legacy that Manchester's residents and tourists will enjoy for generations.
