The challenge
Implementation of a sustainable Medical Education and Research center to develop and inspire people
Implementation of a sustainable Medical Education and Research center to develop and inspire people
Project and Construction Management to an architectural landmark in São Paulo
An urban LEED certified oasis where people can develop and thrive
Picture yourself in an ideal place to learn and develop professional skills. How would that look like? Would it have natural lighting with green spaces and places to gather and talk about the new discoveries & techniques? Would it count on sustainable construction techniques and be a place where people want to be rather than a place where people have to be?
Considered as a reference center for the promotion of knowledge and health, as well as an architectural landmark for São Paulo, with a modern design, glass dome and green areas integrated into the space, the New Albert Einstein Teaching and Research Center is scheduled to start its operations in 2021. Its 42,700 m2 will include 40 classrooms, clinical research laboratories, cell therapy center, experimental biology center, knowledge center, Data Center and living areas, among others.
The center will create and develop people and human capital necessary to differentiate, care and inspire.

Promised to be one of the most advanced institutions in Latin America for medical studies, it will feature innovations in learning methods and technologies, in addition to flexible research laboratories capable of adapting to the evolution of hospital techniques.
As described by Moshe Safdie, the architect responsible for the Design, “the project promotes a sense of calm. A lush indoor garden with different levels, informal meeting areas and classrooms are covered up by an inventive glass cover that evokes the feeling of being under the shade of a tree”.
Envisioned as an urban oasis, the Albert Einstein Education and Research Center will be one of Latin America’s most advanced institutions for medical study and research — not to mention an example of landmark architecture. The center integrates the institution’s teaching, research and innovation initiatives into a single location. It will serve the local community as much as it embraces Brazil’s global aspirations as a center of medical excellence and innovation.
Anticipated for completion in 2021, the development, known as the Cecilia e Abram Szajman Campus, will be a new landmark in São Paulo. World-renowned architect Moshe Safdie's design features external and internal gardens that encompass native Brazilian flora into the architecture, as well as an innovative atrium roof and shading system that adapts to São Paulo’s climate. Its sustainability aspects, which also include water reuse and availability of electric cars charging points, add to this inspiring place, being Leed certified.
The intent is to create a facility that goes beyond the operational needs of a local community hospital and becomes a place that supports the center’s mission of excellence and commitment to improving the health of the country as a whole.
