The challenge

Planning for the sustainable closure of a mining complex must be done considering its full life cycle (the overall lifetime of the mine plus its assets). Being so, it is an effort that takes place over a very long term with several interfaces. For this reason, the governance of the closure could go from hand to hand from the exploration manager, construction manager, operation manager and, finally, to the closure manager, normally in a process that generally take decades.

A consistent and sustainable closure plan preparation requires the integration of several technical disciplines and the management of thousands of Mining and project data record.

Generally, these data are data spread around many sources, people, departments and files with various extensions. Yearly, our Mining clients spend countless resources on plans to update, access and work with such data, often inconsistent and with the threat of data losses.

The solution

Development of a platform that allows planning and management of closure by those responsible for corporate governance, including the process of gathering and integrating information to build the knowledge base of various complex mining operations

The use of digital tools in daily activities are increasing significantly. Our effort is to identify the possible ways to apply such tools to our clients´ interests, helping organizing data spread around many different sources. The development of a Mine Closure Platform for the analysis of the historical data and guidance of an optimized visualization of cost estimative are beneficial to adjust the workflow as well as the management of closure activities, with the ability of receiving data from different sources and consuming compiled content, without the need to consult various files and reports. An organized, technological, and innovative approach within the Mine Closure Plan, optimizes time and cost for the mine companies, enhancing value to information and data interpretation. Also, the effort of a multidisciplinary team is a requirement for a successful mine closure data management due to the complex and diversified nature of the data. Evaluation and integration of Mining Closure local and global professionals’ network for several disciplines (e.g. Engineering, Environment, Program management, Geological, Hydrogeological, Geochemical, Water, Social, Digital, Global Excellence Centers, others) also add to the journey of the development of a sustainable plan.
