The challenge

Costa Coffee is one of the United Kingdom's largest and fastest growing coffee shop chains; in fact, the company grew so fast that it was no longer able to provide an optimum service to its many customers. Following its acquisition by Coca Cola, Costa Coffee decided to launch a comprehensive program of renovation for all its existing and new sites.

The solution

In total, the project involves the renovation and construction of more than a thousand outlets. Costa Coffee is collaborating with Arcadis on the design, commercial activities, program and project management and digitization services. We are part of a Program Management Office (PMO) where several teams work closely together on streamlined and standardized work processes.

The PMO uses digital collaboration and reporting systems and tools, including the key tool Omnia. This IT platform was developed by us and functions as the central repository for information such as commercial reports, project status, drawings and program data. This central storage point facilitates project control. Omnia is accessible to all stakeholders and Costa Coffee can react swiftly through real-time insight, enabling us to quickly and efficiently build more recognizable Costa Coffee shops.

The impact

Construction and renovation of coffee shops in the United Kingdom means that consumers can enjoy a wider range of delicious coffee in more places. Thanks to our innovative digital solutions, Costa Coffee expects to implement the program on time and within budget. The introduction of the Fulcrum app has already provided improved governance and control.
